Translator Job Description:
A translator is required to assist with translation between Kikuyu, Kiswahili and English as part of a qualitative research project in education taking place in Kirinyaga County.
The position will involve the following responsibilities:
- Oral translation for Canadian researcher during interviews with Standard 6, 7 and 8 students;
- Oral translation during recruitment of research participants, meetings with parents, and presentation of results;
- Written translation of consent forms from English into Kikuyu;
- Transcription and written translation of interviews in Kikuyu and Kiswahili into English;
- Participation in data analysis.
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Completed or in progress undergraduate degree in Social Sciences;
- Proficient in English, Kiswahili and Kikuyu (oral and written);
- Competent with computers;
- Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications for Translator Jobs in Kenya
- Completed or in progress M.A. degree in Social Sciences;
- Translation experience;
- Research experience;
- Experience working in education and/or counselling;
- Experience working with children.
