The Kenya Human Rights Commission (KHRC) is a premier Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) which was founded in 1992 and registered in Kenya in 1994 with a mandate to entrench human rights and democratic values in the society.
The KHRC envisions a human rights state and society with a mission to foster human rights, democratic values, human dignity and social justice.
This vision and mission is driven by the goal and new mandate of enhancing human rights centred governance at all levels.
The Kenya Human Rights commission hereby invites application for the following position:
Position: Senior Programme Officer (SPO) – Equality and Non Discrimination (END)
Overall purpose of the job: To provide strategic direction, technical leadership and administrative support to the END programme and issues at all levels in the society.
Contractual Period Two years renewable contract based on performance and availability of funds
Summary of the Key Functions
- Providing strategic leadership and support to END team and the organization
- Overseeing programme design and implementation
- Ensuring compliance with performance measurement standards
- Programme monitoring and reporting
- Undertaking administrative and other responsibilities in programmes administration
Qualifications and Experience
The successful applicant should have the following competencies:
- A Masters’ degree in Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Anthropology or relevant discipline.
- At least 6 years’ experience of working on equality and non-discrimination and related human rights issues in Kenya, at regional and international levels.
- Expertise in at least two to three different areas of equality.
- At least 5 years’ experience of working in a people management role.
- Strong understanding of the national, regional and international human rights and governance issues and mechanisms.
- Proven track record of undertaking policy/legislative work and advocacy on equality issues and human rights issues.
- Demonstrable experience in qualitative and quantitative research methods including experience of developing human rights-based indicators.
- Ability to develop a broad array of partnerships (both state and non-state actors) at community, national and international levels.
- Demonstrable experience of working with or coordinating community, national, regional and international networks.
- Willing to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
