Former Cotu Treasury General Cornel Ogutu and HIV/Aids Program Coordinator Milicent Ngeso are being accused of opening an alien account to siphon millions from the union.
The Daily Nation reports that the two used the account in the name of helping HIV/Aids patients and pregnant mothers when they opened the parallel account.
Speaking before the court, Cotu Secretary general testified that, “The two accused were employees of Cotu and they initiated a pan allegedly meant to help members who were affected by HIV/Aids but they turned out to be the ones benefiting from the money allocated to fund the project.”
He further testified that that the two senior employees had been given full support by the union to start the project but instead opened a parallel one which he deemed illegal. “It was not authorized or introduced to members of the board from 2002. We never knew of its existence,” Mr. Atwoli is quoted by the paper.
The two employees were arrested last year and their case continues on April 23 when the defence will cross examine Mr. Atwoli.
