A couple has been charged with 13 counts of conspiracy to defraud an insurance company of Ksh 634,936 by faking the man’s death to claim compensation.
Mr. Ezekiel Ochieng Ogoma and his wife, Ms Rachel Odhiambo were accused of conspiracy to defraud Pan Africa Life Assurance Company by pretending that Mr. Ogoma had died . The two had also forged a register of death purporting it had been signed by Gombe sub-location assistant chief to certify Mr. Ogoma had indeed died.
The two went ahead to forge another document—a police abstract dated February 28, 2013, by Yala Police Station OCS confirming that Mr. Ogoma had died in a road accident.
However, appearing before senior principal magistrate Lucy Mbugua, the couple denied all the charges.
Separately, the wife, Ms. Rachel Odhiambo was charged with presenting a forged death certificate to Mr. Bethuel Muturi Mwangi of Pan Africa Assurance on September 25, 2013 also claiming that Mr. Ogoma had died.
Additionally, Ms. Odhiambo is faces a charge of forging a letter from Sagam Community Hospital claiming Mr. Ogoma had died there. She also faced other charges of forging a chief’s letter as well as a police abstract. The couple was freed on a cash bail of Ksh 2 million. The case was set for mention in two weeks’ time.
