Would A ‘Moses Kuria’ Personality Survive In The Corporate World? Kenyans React

By Elizabeth Benu,

We all know Moses Kuria, don’t we? He is yet to be announced by the IEBC as the Gatundu South MP. Before contesting for the seat he was already in the glare of publicity for accusations of alleged hate speech after his Facebook comments brought controversy in allegedly firing up of tribal animosity.

His character that brings out a personality of a talkative, aggressive person who speaks their mind out as it is.

People get fired for the smallest mistakes such as coming late and putting this into consideration, I sought the opinion of Kenyans on whether a ‘Moses Kuria’ character in their companies would survive and if they would hire them if they had a chance and this is what they had to say.

Moses Kinyanjui says, “He/she would not survive and I would not hire them. I think such a character would be at logger heads with everyone in the office because of the talkative nature . Office people are normally laid back and he would be misunderstood frequently.”

Anthony Kipusa says that such a character cannot survive. “I consider such character too roughly-cut for the corporate world. His/her antics would be unwelcome and the way he/she would handle issues would not be ideal. In arguments such a person would mostly shout and not solve in a friendly manner, “Kipusa adds.

To Lucy Mutisya, this is a character that is not afraid of anything and they would probably bring ethnic profiling in the office thinking it is harmless. “Who wants a tribal person in the office? Tribe issues are sensitive and such a person will get kicked out of the office very fast,” Ms. Mutisya adds.

“A person of such nature will not survive for long,” says Maxmilla Kipsang’* who adds that, “With such character in the corporate world, it’s more likely one will be fired severally and then not get the best referencing. Poor referencing makes getting hired hard. As an employer I would not hire him/her because they have not been referenced, I do not know he kind of person I am hiring,” she adds.

On the contrary, some Kenyans would gladly hire a person of such character. Let’s look at what they said.

Felix Oluoch* would consider hiring such character for his sales and marketing department. “His/her talkative nature will get customers spilling in. That nature is positive and if it appears it would get him into trouble I would give the desired training and perfect his/her marketing skills. The only problem would be poor listening so working with a team would be hard, but it’s a yes for me,” he says.

Xavier Wanjau says that in a journalism career he/she is most likely to succeed. “Journalists are talkative and he/she would get first hand information very first. I also think he would give perfect interviews considering a straight-to-the-point nature; he would not beat around the bush. I would hire them for my media house,” Mr. Wanjau explains.

“I do not think such character would survive but it would probably do that person well if they are on their own. This aggressive would get them far in business because they can grab any opportunity that comes their way,” concludes Luke Obonyo

What do you think; would you work with or hire a “Moses Kuria”? Keep this conversation going.
