Differentiating yourself from other candidates is hard given that accounting careers is quite flooded. How do you tell and convince the employer in your CV that they should invite you for an interview?

“Such a CV should not only have accounting skills and experience, but also the personality aspects and proof that the employer should want to work with you,” says Melody Mwendwa, a Certified CV Writer at Corporate Staffing Services.

Here Are 6 Ways To Write An Impressive Accounts Clerk CV

1. Your CV should have a direction

Accountants contribute to the smooth functioning of a company in terms of accuracy, efficiency and reliability. These values should be emphasized in your Accounts clerk CV without forgetting the industry or sector you have experience in.

For example, if the position wants someone with experience in the banking industry include that in your career profile “An accounting professional with 2 years experience in the banking industry while using ERP Systems that are in line with CBK Regulations.”

2. Include Accounting related skills

These are skills geared towards the following functions: good account administration, accurate accounting that leads to maximizing of profits, dependable and risk free qualities, supporting the chief accountant and contribution to improved efficiency.

For example

Professional Skills and competencies

High level maintenance of ledgers

Maintenance of VAT Returns reports

Experience in developing and maintaining file systems and procedure manuals.

3. Tailor the CV to a specific employer

An account clerk in the NGO Sector has a different experience form the one in the banking industry. A clerk working in the county is required to have private or public sector experience to be eligible for the position. On the other hand, a privately owned business requires an accountant with experience working within a finance, accounts or collections department.

To achieve this, research on the company and the sector it is in before proving that you can add value to the company.

4. Stand Out to write an impressive Accounts Clerk CV

How will you make the employer say “I can’t wait to meet this candidate”? By adding valuable capabilities or transferable skills. These skills include commitment and enthusiasm, strong communication skills, ability to prioritize your work and meet deadlines.

Trustworthiness, integrity and respect for confidential information are also key because accounting is one of the careers with the worst reputation in fraud.

Include figures when stating your achievements. Nothing is more enticing to an employer than numbers. Have you made a difference or gone beyond your job description to achieve something worthwhile? Include that in your Accounts Clerk CV.

For example, “Improved accuracy of data records and used my accounts payables skills resulting in a reduction of a Kshs. 2 Million debt over 1 year.”

6. Perfect presentation

Adding your best skills and qualifications would be a waste of time if your CV does not have excellent formatting that is easy to read and is error free.
