Our Client is a one of the largest in its commercial space in Kenya in the service Industry.

Our client is seeking to hire a Head of Procurement who will be based in Nairobi Office. He will report directly to the Finance Director and CEO.

Head of Procurement Job Summary

  • The Corporate Procurement Manager is responsible for the planning, execution, and finalization of procurement strategies for the purchase of firm supplies used throughout the entire organization. This incumbent is responsible for acquiring the resources within budget and facilitating communication between the enterprise and its providers in order to deliver products and services according to plan.
  • The Corporate Procurement Manager will also define the objectives of products and services in order to oversee quality and control throughout the process. This position is also responsible for managing and coordinating the data of all of the Company’s requirements and is responsible for ensuring that related activities are performed efficiently, effectively and in accordance with established company policies and procedures.

Job Purpose

  • To lead and manage the Company’s Procurement and Supplier Management activities in order to enable key areas of the business (including the Executive and Board) to achieve agreed business requirements.
  • To provide top level expertise, advice and support to the business on all aspects of Procurement and Supplier Management.
  • To ensure that goods and services are provided cost effectively to predetermined standards and in accordance with current tender and procurement regulations
  • To ensure that suppliers and contracts are appropriately managed in line with supplier and contract management best practices
  • To deliver greater value for money from all 3rd party supply agreements that mean bottom line cost reductions
  • To ensure that procurement and supplier management activity is performed with probity and in compliance with relevant procurement regulations
  • To lead a small sub team of procurement officers and contract managers in the organisation.
  • Ensure that key decision makers in the business are aware of the responsibilities in complying with
  • Procurement regulations and that there is a shared accountability for delivering effective Procurements.
  • Provide high level support to the business by establishing a full understanding of both current and future business needs and customer requirements over the medium to long term.
  • Develop and maintain a strategic role for Procurement within the business, ensuring that Procurement needs are included in business operational plans and also ensuring that business objectives and initiatives are included within the Procurement departmental plan.
  • Identify, plan and lead major change initiatives and business/efficiency improvement activities in procurement (and influence change in other areas) to meet current and emerging business needs.
  • Oversee and control the review of procurement to identify issues and emerging trends, and to provide the basis for the continual development and improvement of services.
  • Participate, in the formulation of policy and strategy with regards to procurement, including organisational and business developments, and oversee the development of plans and procedures to implement agreed policies.
  • Ensure that all purchasing decisions are carried out in accordance with appropriate levels of delegated authority.
  • Manage the maintenance of all contracts.
  • Establish and monitor an appropriate level of supplier and contract management in collaboration with the business areas.
  • Drive cost reduction and quality improvements from suppliers.

Essential Qualifications/Training/Experience

  • Non specialist knowledge
  • In depth knowledge of how to develop procurement and supplier management strategy, objectives and key result areas.
  • In depth understanding of relevant regulatory and legislative issues.
  • In depth knowledge of key procurement processes and procedures.
  • Proven track record in managing expectations of Senior Managers and Executives

Specialist knowledge

  • In depth understanding of all aspects of risk management.
  • Practical examples of having delivered real value from supplier and contract management
  • In depth understanding of the procurement needs of internal customers
  • Able to assess the potential impact of emerging developments in Procurement.

Qualifications for Head of Procurement Jobs in Kenya

  • A University Degree form a recognised institution preferably in Procurement.
  • A master’s degree will be an added advantage
  • Specialist Procurement qualification
  • Kenya Institute of Supplies Management (KISM) Member or Any other related
  • Substantial experience in a senior procurement role
  • Substantial experience in establishing and maintaining relationships with major suppliers.
