Star subeditor and legal officer Linda Musita was on Tuesday named among Africa’s most promising authors in a list published by Africa 39 project. The announcement was made at the London Book Fair.
Musita was listed with other writers including Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Nii Kwei Parkes, Dinaw Mengistu, Chika Unigwe and Kenyan writers Clifton Gachagua, Ndinda Kioko, Okwiri Oduor, Stanley Gazemba and Gohil Mehul. She expressed her joy for being selected.
“I am really happy to be on the list. Especially with writers like Igoni Barrett – who I think is the African king of short stories. The best part about it is that young Kenyan writers that I respect are among the Africa 39, and deservedly so.”
A panel that included Elechi Amadi, Margaret Busby and Tess Onwueme selected the names from a pool of 300 submissions researched by Kwani?’s founder Binyavanga Wainaina. Africa39 project aimed to bring international attention to the best works from Africa and its diaspora.
It culminates in the publication of an anthology, edited by Dame Ella Allfrey with a forward by Prof Wole Soyinka, that will be launched in October during the Port Harcourt Book Fair.
