Hardly a week since he was confirmed in office, new National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Managing Trustee Mr. Richard Langat is already facing a sack threat from the Labour Minister Kambi Kazungu.
According to Minister, the new boss of the Ksh 130 billion fund has just three weeks to put operations of the fund in office or else face ejection from office, reports Business Daily.
“We want to clean up the NSSF,” said Mr. Kazungu. “We now have a new manager and I want to say that if he does not clean up the NSSF in three weeks he will be sacked.” Mr. Kazungu issued this threat on Tuesday during the launch of a new workers’ union in Nairobi.
Should Mr. Kazungu indeed carry out his latest threat, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise. The top seat at NSSF has proved to volatile and full of controversy. Mr. Langat happens to be the third NSSF boss in a span of one year after Hope Mwashumbe and Tom Odongo who left last year in November and July following that order.
Moreover, in the past six years, NSSF has seen eight CEOs come and go with Mr. Langat being the ninth occupant of the hot seat. His other predecessors who fell casualties to the sack include Alex Kazongo, Rachel Lumbasyo and James Akoya among others.
