Finance Kenyan Jobs

Vacancy: Grants Analyst

Exceptional professionals with 2 to 4+ years of work experience to support our growing fund development team.

Job Location

Rural Kenya to start (1-2 months for training); then to Nairobi office.

Duration

Minimum 2 years commitment, full-time job.

Organization Description

Most of the world’s poor are farmers, representing the largest and most uniform group of poor people in the world. One Acre Fund is a growing social enterprise in Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, and Tanzania that is innovating a new way of helping farm families to achieve their full potential. Instead of giving handouts, One Acre Fund invests in farmers to generate a permanent gain in farm income. We provide farmers with a “service bundle” that includes education, finance, seed and fertilizer, and market facilitation. Our program is proven impactful – every year, we weigh thousands of harvests and measure 50-100% average gain in farm income per acre. We have laser-like focus on generating better lives for the people that we serve.

Job Description

One Acre Fund is on a rapid growth trajectory – we plan to reach 500,000 farm families by 2017, and at least one million by the end of the decade. To make that happen, we will need to raise an ambitious level of funds. To help our development department operate smoothly and effectively, we need a highly capable and highly motivated Grants Analyst to support our grant writing and reporting functions for major corporate and private foundations, and to support administration and compliance for our bilateral contracts. We are seeking someone with a strong business mind, strong administrative skills, and a talented writer. Prior grant writing or reporting experience is not required in this role, but this person must be able to step back, understand our programs and needs, and write a strategic report that is well-tailored to the grant opportunity at hand. The candidate should be highly organized and capable of supporting the financial and administrative aspects of reporting and compliance.

Detailed job responsibilities are as follows:

  • Summarize key elements (e.g. reporting deadlines, restrictions, payment and reporting schedules) of grant agreements, and enter data into online grants management system.

  • Develop and maintain a donor filing system (reporting, invoices, etc.).

  • Support award audits, compliance, financial reporting, and administration related to foundation grants and bilateral contracts.

  • Build deep knowledge of One Acre Fund operations, and build relationships with key staff in the field, to ensure accurate and timely gathering of data relevant to each award.

  • Write high-quality reports for funders using required templates, to report on progress against stated activity milestones, project outcomes, project budget, etc.

  • Document evidence of project activities, outcomes, and lessons learned in accordance with donor requirements, leveraging where possible existing M&E data and narratives from the field.

  • Keep organized. We are not a boss-employee culture. We would like to hire someone who can manage his or her own work, and who does not need to be reminded to do things. This person should own the role.

Career Growth and Development

  • One Acre Fund invests in building management and leadership skills. Your manager will invest significant time in your career development.

  • We provide constant, actionable feedback delivered through mentorship and through regular management consulting-style career reviews.

  • We also have regular one-on-one meetings, where we listen to and discuss career goals, and work collaboratively to craft roles that each person can be passionate about. Because of our rapid growth, we constantly have new high-level roles opening up and opportunities in many functions. This results in fast career growth for our staff.
